CFS started in 1984 as a small foodservice spin off of Commercial Parts & Service in Indianapolis. Our first product was Basic American Food's Russet Fries. This item requires equipment to rehydrate the product to make the fries. This product was the base of our business for many years and led us into the School market where we have been ever since.
A few years after the creation of CFS, we ventured into our next product offering, nachos. Nacho Naturals was and is Commercial Food System's signature product line. This product line offers premium nacho chips, cheeses, and chili as individual items or a combined program. Some form of the Nacho NaturalsTM program is in over two-thirds of the school systems in the state of Indiana.
Starting in 2001, CFS launched its "Healthier Foods For Kids" program. We focus on bringing healthier single portion packaged items to Indiana school foodservice. Many schools have seen labor savings from the packages that we provide. These snacks are used on the menu, but also for A la Carte sales. It has been very exciting to see the success of the "Healthier Foods for Kids" program in the state. Overall, we are pleased to call over 80% of the school systems in Indiana our customers.
In 2003, CFS became part of the VeryFreshJuice family combining quality products packaged with excellent equipment and service. We now provide bag-in-box juice programs to the school and the healthcare industries. We are also Associate Members of both the Indiana Health Care Association (IHCA) and the Indiana Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (IAHSA).
The newest market CFS has entered is the Childcare industry. Teaming with Splash Juice, we now service another market that supports kids. This 100% juice blend was designed specifically for the childcare industry (daycare, head starts, before and after school care, etc). We have customized our product offering to cater to the childcare industry, such as offering vinyl gloves and bulk snacks.
Commercial Food Systems has had a long successful relationship with the Indiana School Nutrition Association (ISNA). As an annual Premier Partner and an Industry Advisory Council member, we have listened to Food Service Directors as they have helped guide our product development. We are a small but focused company willing to listen and respond to our customer desires and help them achieve their foodservice goals.
In late 2003 it became evident that we were fast out growing our facility. The search began for bigger space. After considering many leasing options, we decide to buy land and build our own building. We broke ground in early 2004 and were fully operational in late August 2004. This new bigger building has allowed us to better service our customers and we even have room for another building so keep on buying and we'll keep on building.
